Red Bull Final Descent

Saturday, September 10, 2011
Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort

RESULTS
PRESS RELEASE

Last Year, Winter Park Resort and Red Bull welcomed 100 teams
that competed for the 12 hours of racing, the winning number of
total laps in Trestle Bike Park was a grueling 38!

Are you ready for 12 hours of mind blowing competitive downhill?
Cap off your 2011 MTB season in a fury! Red Bull Final Descent
is a 12-hour endurance downhill mountain bike challenge on the
gnarly terrain in Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park Resort, geared
to sport-, expert- and pro-class mountain bikers. The rider, duo or
team to complete the most laps down the mountain in 12 hours
wins their class and a grip load of prizes – an amazing weekend
for spectators and riders alike.

Trail Impacts for the Public
Boulevard and Bear Arms will be closed for the race all day. Trestle DH and Search and Seizure will remain open to the public until 4;45pm. Public riding Trestle DH will be marshaled and routed onto the lowest section of Trestle DH and then onto Witness. Beeall Ucanbe will be open from Boot Camp and routed into the slopestyle area at the bottom of the trail instead of merging with the last switchback of Boulevard at the base. With the expansion of our trail system, event closures will be minimal. The rest of the bike park will be open all day.

Racers will use the Gemini (excusively) and Eskimo (with public, racers having priority).

Classes / Prizes
With a $5000 cash purse to top finishers at each event in all categories, plus prizes from our industry sponsors, a $500 cash purse goes to the series top pro male and female rider who
completes the most laps in a combined total from both events (including the Angel Fire Resort Event). All other class series top finishers will receive a $120 cash prize.

Cash prizes for each event are as follows:

Registration
Event registration is available in advance, online here, or onsite during rider check-in the day before the event (add $15 to the fees for onsite registration). Participation fee includes event registration, lift ticket, event T-shirt and all the Red Bull you can drink!

Because of the popularity of this race we have set a course rider limit of 150. Since a duo or team will only have one rider on course at a time, this means that a duo or team counts as one. So technically, we will have more than 150 competitors participating in the event. When you go to sign up online, don't think it's getting to full if the number is over 150. If you can register, then it means there is room for you to sign up.

Waivers
* IMPORTANT: Riders under 18 will need to A) have their parent/legal guardian present during packet pickup OR B) download and print out the waiver, and we will accept it with a notarized signature from a parent/legal guardian. THIS IS MANDATORY, NO WAY AROUND THIS, SO COME PREPARED. All riders over 18 will complete waivers at rider check-in.

Logistics / Rules
▪ Full face helmets are mandatory for all athletes. Armor and gloves are strongly recommended.
• There are no ties. Close finishes will be resolved by timing & course officials using recorded data.
• Team class is based on best rider-on-team skill level.
• Obvious and significantly injured riders will be suspended unless or until they are proven capable of continuing safely (discretion of course officials).
• Chairlift loading will be 3 riders/bikes ALTERNATING with the public bike park guests on Eskimo. Racers will have exclusive access to the Gemini lift.
• Only one rider per duo/team is allowed on course at any given time.
• Course officials may DQ riders for unsafe or unsportsmanlike behavior at any time during the event.
• Disputes may be petitioned to the race director and may result only in refund of participation fees.

Race Info: Saturday, September 10 from 7am-7pm
Race begins with a mass start at the top of the course at 7am – staggered by rider class level. The course closes at 6:45pm sharp, and all riders on the mountain at that time will be allowed to score their final lap. If two riders are on similar total laps, the first to cross the finish on their final lap will be the winner. If a weather event causes a closure of the lift, the winner will be based on completed laps to that point in the race.

▪ Race fee includes lift ticket(s) for race day and event T-shirt. Discount lift tickets will be available Friday afternoon for practice runs. Courses are open to the public on Friday.
▪ Rider Check-In & Number Pick-Up: Friday, September 9 at the Private Lesson Center, across from Doc’s Roadhouse, from noon to 5pm. Complete all waivers, pick up number plates and enjoy Red Bull hospitality.

▪ Race Day Briefing/START: Saturday, September 10 at 6:45am at the Start/Finish Line at base area.

7am – 7pm: The Boulevard is a fast, Most Difficult (designated) trail starting at the top of the Zephyr Lift and extending to the base. Riders will notice a new extension from Boulevard to Bear Arms and lower Boulevard. This will reduce lap times. Racers will use only the Gemini and Eskimo lifts. Racers are not allowed on the Zephyr lift.

Beginning at 4:45pm, the Upper Track will change to utilize Search and Seizure until it merges with Boulevard.
